Buoys will protect coral reefs and heritage sites, says Elebash

Yachts anchored at the new moorings

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MAY 11TH 2009 (CUOPM) – Mooring buoys have been placed in the waters of White House Bay to protect the nearby heritage sites and coral reefs.

“This is to encourage visitors by boat to tie up to the buoys which are safely anchored in the seabed away from the heritage sites or the coral reefs that needs protection. We hope to encourage boaters not to indiscriminately anchor in such a way that might damage the undersea assets,” said Christophe Harbor’s Chief Operations Officer, Mr. LeGrand Elebash at a news conference.

Mr. Elebash said a temporary floating pier was recently constructed in White House Bay area and replaces one destroyed by a hurricane some years ago.
