KINGSTON, Jamaica - THE ‘No Ordinary Love’ sweetheart Alaine has recently had a run-in with the law which is costing the singer over one million Jamaican dollars.

The songstress, Alaine Laughton, according to 876radio.com, was fined for breaching the Customs Act. The Customs Department says Laughton imported a damaged 2007 BMW 530i motor car last year with a declared value of US$8,915.

The media house further stated that the Customs Department subsequently carried out investigations which revealed that the value was understated. As a result, the vehicle was seized and a penalty of three times the duties avoided was imposed. The Customs Department said that it is just over $1.3M for breaching sections 209 and 210 of the Customs Act.

Laughton however has since then paid the penalty and additional duties to facilitate the return of the vehicle. She has also apologised to the Customs Department for the breach, as she claimed the importation was done in her name but she had nothing to do with the shipping or clearance of the vehicle.

The signer/song writer was born in New Jersey but moved to Jamaica at the age of three.

Through the late 1990s and early 2000s, Alaine lived in the United States and did songwriting and singing back-up for rappers such as Cam'ron and Freeway.

She is known now for big hits such as ‘No Ordinary Love’, ‘Wine’, ‘Sacrifice’, among others. Laughton also performed in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in 2007.
