Lord Kent releases new song for Music Festival

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ANTHONYSON GONSALVES, known in the calypso circle as Lord Kent, has recently released a new song titled ‘Music Festival’ to commemorate the annual St. Kitts Music Festival celebrations which usually takes place in June.

The song was composed, arranged and produced by Kent, who resides in the United States, and the music was arranged and played by Steve Dublin of d’vybz Band.

Marguaret Arthurton, who is also a Kittitian, did back ground vocals to the track.

The song is also a part of his 12-track new album to be released later this year; first in New York around Labour Day and then in St. Kitts during the annual carnival. Although Gonsalves has never performed solo at the annual festival, he has performed twice alongside Kenrick Georges and the Bits and Pieces.

Gonsalves is known for his musical contributions to the national carnival and was a competitor in last year’s National Calypso Monarch competition, where he made it all the way to the Finals with ‘Stop de beating’ and ‘Let’s Celebrate’.

The last time he made it to the calypso finals was in 1992.

His musical career started in St. Lucia in 1976 as a lead vocalist with one of the island’s most popular group, Rebirth 7.

Between 1976 and 1983 he recorded on two group albums and was thrice crowned Calypso King of Soufriere.

The calypsonian is not sure if he would be competing in this year’s national calypso monarch competition, but said he is looking forward to it just as long as his job permits him to do so. He however stated that he is definitely looking forward to being in the Federation later next month for the music festival.

‘Music Festival’ can be heard on SKNVibes now in our music section and will also be released on ZIZ Radio and Winn FM this weekend.
