Roadtown, Tortola - The Ministry of Health and Social Development looks forward to welcoming the executive body of the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists (CAP) at the body’s regional mid-tem meeting, scheduled to take place on Tortola next week.

Recently appointed Chief of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services Ms. Gracia Wheatley said pharmacists from across the Caribbean will meet on Saturday, 23 May, at the Moorings Mariner Inn Hotel.

“It will offer a rare opportunity for local pharmacists to network with their counterparts from across the region. Therefore, I strongly encourage all of our pharmacists to attend the meeting whether they work with Government or in the private sector,” Ms. Wheatley said.

She noted that physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are also welcome to attend next Saturday’s CAP meeting.

Among the meeting’s highlights, she said, will be two presentations entitled “A Pharmacists Perspective in Patient Care Using HIV Disease Management as a Model” and Understanding the Disease State to Guide Treatment Decisions”, by Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Dr. Billy Ray Brown of Jackson State University.

“We look forward to welcoming the attending pharmacists and other healthcare professionals as the Ministry continues to provide leadership that promotes safe pharmaceutical practices and provides education to strengthen the services provided to the public,” said the Chief of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services.

The Caribbean Association of Pharmacists was established in 1976. One of its primary objectives is to encourage, stimulate and maintain a high standard of pharmaceutical education within the region. Interested pharmacists and persons may contact either Ms. Wheatley at 494-3701 extension 2236 or acting Manager of the Peebles Hospital Pharmacy Mr. Neil Hawke at 494-3497 extension 4502 to obtain additional information or registration details.
