Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 08, 2016 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has warmly congratulated the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, the Honourable Allen Chastanet, on his “party’s convincing victory” in the recently held General Elections on June 06,2016.
“I welcome the return of the United Workers Party (UWP) to again lead the people of St. Lucia to prosperity, security and good governance,” said Prime Minister Harris on behalf of himself and the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
“Gaining eleven (11) of the seventeen (17) seats in the 2016 election, bears evidence of the people’s support and confidence in your party’s ability to lead the great nation of Saint Lucia. The integrity and competence of your leadership were also vindicated in the results of the General Elections,” said Prime Minister Harris to the sixth prime minister of Saint Lucia since its Independence from Britain in 1979.
“I am pleased to welcome you as a colleague and friend, not just in service to the people of Saint Lucia but in service to the people of the OECS, CARICOM and the wider region,” Prime Minister wrote to Prime Minister Chastanet in his letter dated June 07, 2016.
Prime Minister Harris added: “There are many challenges, which we must confront and work cooperatively to resolve. I look forward to working with you as we address the bilateral, regional and international issues that will impact the economic and social progress of our people and our region.”
“I extend best wishes to you and your new government as you embark on a journey to fulfill the mandate given by the people of Saint Lucia,” Prime Minister Harris further said to the honourable prime minister, who was sworn in on June 07, 2016.
Prime Minister Chastanet was a former Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Member of Saint Lucia’s Senate from 2006-2011. He has worked as vice president of marketing and sales for Air Jamaica and is the managing director of the Coco Palm Hotel.
The Saint Lucian Prime Minister holds a B.A. Degree in Economics and Political Science from Bishop’s University and a M.A. Degree in Development Banking from American University.
He was elected leader of the UWP in 2013.
