St. Kitts Marriott Got Talent

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN celebration of Associates Appreciation Week, management of the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel held a talent competition on Friday evening (May 15), reminiscent of the popular “America’s Got Talent”.

The St. Kitts Marriott Got Talent competition saw eight female and four male employees competing in song dance.

At the end of a very entertaining night, judges Scott and Brian, managers at the hotel, along with local artiste Masud Sadiki and calypsonian Queen Anastasia decided that Cynthia Bristol and Allistair Phipps were the overall winners.

The winners each received an American Airline tickets while their Runners-up received tours on the St. Kitts Scenic Railway and gift sets from Ashburry’s.

Bristol gave an exciting impression of Tina Turner and was decked in costume and wig with complimenting dance moves that sent the crowd wild.

Although her voice was giving her a few problems, her stage performance helped her secure the top position with Turner’s classic ‘Simply the Best’.

Allistair Phipps, a.k.a. G, also gave an entertaining performance where he serenaded the audience with a song that he wrote.

According to Lavern Stevens, Public Relations Manager at the hotel, Associate Appreciation Week was organised by Bill Marriott, founder of the Marriott Hotel in 1927.

“Every year during the week of May 11, all the Marriott hotels around the world will celebrate with a week of activities,” she said.

She added that this was Marriott’s way of showing appreciation and thanks to the employees that he considered associates and not just staff.

The hotel usually hosts a Miss Marriott Queen Show, but some of the workers informed the organisers that they too have talent and would like to express it.

“So they decided to have a show similar to America’s Got Talent, where those who wanted to showcase their talent can do so,” Steven said.

During the week of activities they held a cleanup at Newtown Playground, a Sports Day and Award Celebration.
