    B.V.I. Monday, May 18 - The Ministry of Education and Culture and the Hon. Andrew Fahie, Minister for Education has invited the top three students of each class in all public primary schools to a tour of Anegada.

     

    The tour which is scheduled for Friday May 22 is in recognition of their achievement during the Lent school term of 2009.

     

    Students participating in the tour will be divided into three groups namely Group A, Group B, and Group C. Students in group A will tour the historical sites of Anegada, while groups B and C will experience the culture and life of the island. The three groups will then rotate their activities.

     

    The students will also participate in mini workshops with various skills craftsmen on the island which will include demonstrating the making of fish pots, knitting of the seine, pottery making and storytelling.

     

    The Ministry has also identified several areas of interest to be visited which include the Claudia Creque Educational Centre, Theodore Faulkner’s Museum, the Administration Complex, the Anegada Rock Iguana Rehabilitation Centre, the Flamingo Pond and the Auguste George Airport.

     

    The entire trip is also aimed at allowing the students to experience day to day life on Anegada. Each student will also receive a special brochure that highlights various aspects of life on Anegada.

     

    The students selected for the trip were submitted to the ministry by the respective principals of each school and will be accompanied by teachers from each school.

     

    The ferry departs Road Town at 8:30 a.m. and will return after the trip. A light lunch will be provided for the students. This is the second year the Ministry is hosting the trip that celebrates the scholastic achievements of the Territory’s primary school students. The event initiative was created as a way of rewarding students for good work and to expose them to the Virgin Islands topography, history and culture.
