BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE recently-formed Champs for Charity Foundation is inviting suitably-qualified individuals to submit applications for financial assistance to benefit their children for the upcoming school year.
Only last Saturday (Jun. 11), the Foundation organized and successfully executed its first charitable event which was the local staging of Jamaican play ‘BanGarang’ featuring Keith ‘Shebada’ Ramsey.
Birthed by Shirley Julius, the Foundation is bent on “helping to build stronger communities in St. Kitts and Nevis by lending a helping hand through social, financial and educational assistance in order to effect positive change”.
Public Relations Officer for the Foundation Tasha Hendrickson told SKNVibes that individuals needing assistance can begin the process of application by sending an email of intent. She also gave some of the criteria which applicants have to meet.
“Our first charity outreach is going to be helping parents who work for minimum wage; in this case persons who work for less than $360 per week or less than $3500 per month. So we will be able to help those parents for this coming September…with items that they would need for their children to help them get back to school such as books, text books, bags, shoes, uniforms…
“The procedure is that you will send us an email of intent meaning that you want to apply for the actual charity outreach and then we will send the person an application form. The email address is champsforcharity@gmail.com. We would email them back the application and then coming around to mid-August, we would sit as a Foundation and go through the different applications and then look at those who are eligible to receive funding. And then we would contact those who would have met the criteria.”
Hendrickson said this funding is available to persons in both St. Kitts and Nevis.
Chairperson of the Foundation Julius at a press conference held last week, explained her motivation for creating such an entity.
“I am very passionate about Champs…My grandmother, who always said to us no matter how poor you are, you have to give and my late boss Mr. Kishu Chandiramani, who gave his very best no matter who you were. And so I always say that if it is that you can find yourself in a position to give, you have to give.
“You have to learn to give because it is better to give than receive. Don’t wait until we become not relevant to criticize persons who are trying their best. So, please, once you find yourself in a position to give, let’s all give.”
Individuals or businesses wishing to donate to the Champs for Charity Foundation can do so through the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank via account number 10128193.
