CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – CHARLESTOWN emerged victorious when the Rotary Club of Nevis held its annual Secondary Schools Spelling Bee last Friday (May 15) at the Methodist Church’s conference hall in Charlestown.
Led by Best Speller Al Flemming, Charlestown accumulated 56 points to beat Gingerland into second place with 52. The third school in the competition, Lyn Jeffers Secondary, could only manage 40 points.
Flemming finished with 22 points, breezing his way through the easy, intermediate and advanced categories. His one mistake came in the unseen category where he miss-spelt his second word. Second place was shared by Alkin Huggins of Charlestown, and Austine Liburd and Carmesha Merchant who all had 18 points.
The best speller for Lyn Jeffers was Trefon Simmons who scored 16 points.
