BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots left arm seamer, Krishmar Santokie, has been fined for breaching the Caribbean Premier League’s Code of Conduct.
According to CPL, Santokie breached Article 2.2.7 during the Patriots’ match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors in which they lost by four wickets playing at the Providence International Stadium in Georgetown.
Upon completion of the 16th over of the Warriors innings while chasing a paltry 109 for victory, a seemingly frustrated Santokie threw the ball in the direction of the strike batsman, Steven Jacobs.
In a release, CPL officials stated that Santokie was fined 75 percent of his match fee by Match Referee Dev Govindjee.
"Throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a CPL Match."
CPL noted that the bowler admitted to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, and as such there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires John Ward and Leslie Reifer, third umpire Peter Nero and TV umpire Imran Moakan brought the charges to light.
According to the laws, all Level 2 breaches carry a minimum penalty of the imposition of a fine between 50-100 percent of the applicable match fee, and/or up to two (2) suspension points.
The Patriots would next take to the field on Wednesday (Jul. 13) against the Kieron Pollard-led Barbados Tridents at the Kensington Oval.
