July 12th, 2016 -- The Annual Oasis Summer Camp organized by the Oasis Language Arts and Educational Foundation will get underway Monday July 11, 2016 at the St. Peters Community Center. The camp will run until July 22nd and starts at 9am to 3pm each day. The camp running now for five years, has featured a wide range of activities including field trips, Spanish lessons and fun activities.
In previous editions of the camp, children have gone on field trips to the SNAPPER Fish Farm in Conaree, Brimstone Hill, an island tour and Caribelle Batik. The children also visited the Taiwanese Farm, a tour on the Scenic Railway, did art and craft, tree planting and were also paid a visit by Operation Future’s Officer Lauston Percival. There was also in the past a health session for the children with Nurse Glenecia Natta, a dental session with Dr. Trevor Christmas, a visit from resident magistrate Josephine Mallalieu and a session on music and drumming with Mr. Royde Phipps.
Venezuelan Ambassador Romulo Henriques also paid a visit to the children in one of the previous editions of the camp. The campers are also taught basic Spanish every day in the evening sessions.
