BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FOLLOWING his arrest and EC$3,000 fine for using indecent language during his performance at the 20th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival held at Warner Park in Basseterre, American rapper Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson has described the Federation as the murder capital.
Jackson, who appeared as a guest on a United States late-night television talk show hosted by Conan O’Brien, made fun of St. Kitts and Nevis for taking him into custody over the incident.
During the show, aired last Wednesday (Jul. 13), O’Brien asked Jackson to address what went wrong with his performance in St. Kitts, to which the rapper explained that even though his profanity-laced songs are played publicly, he was informed that he could not sing them in the open “because at that point you are crossing the boundaries of public profanity”.
He further explained that when performing they are asked to use one of their radio versions of their materials.
Jackson lamented that one entertainer dropped out and he filled the vacant spot even though he was not contracted to perform, and that he sang one of his tunes which included the words mother@#$%&*.
Against that backdrop, the entertainer, who had high praises for the St. Kitts and Nevis and his fans, painted the twin-island Federation in a negative light.
“Then this guy comes to me and says, ‘Mr. Fifty the things that you say on stage you have to come with me’. And I am like, what? ‘I have to arrest you’. I say what the f&*%$ you talking about?
“I was in the precinct, I had to sit there. And I was sitting there and was like in the twilight zone...am I in trouble for singing a song. They are like the murder capitol of the world; and you got me here for say motherf$%&#er, and you have a murder rate higher than everywhere else I have been. Damn, go ketch a murder!” Jackson exclaimed.
A special sitting at the Magistrate Court was held on Sunday, June 26 for Jackson and Bajar Walter, who is said to be his bodyguard, and they were fined EC$3,000 each for the use of indecent langusge.
