BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE number of police officers promoted within the last couple of months was recently increased, with five Corporals attaining the rank of Acting Sergeant.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevus Police Force issued a press statement today (Aug. 5) which informed that the five promoted individuals are Cpl. Simeon Liburd, Cpl. Elvin Brown, Woman Cpl. Jacqueline Lennon, Cpl. Valentine Hodge and Woman Cpl. Desarene Wilson.
“In the brief ceremony, words of guidance and encouragement were given to the group by ACP's Merclyn Hughes and Andre Mitchell. They were challenged to lead, and lead by example. To take care of their officers, and to continue to give of their best as the Police Service continues to strive to make the federation a safer place to live, work and do business.”
The statement explained that the selection process was “transparent and competitive” and SKNVibes understands that it included the advertising of the positions which encouraged suitably-qualified individuals to submit their applications. The applicants were then interviewed by an Interview or Promotion Panel which submitted its recommendation to the Commissioner of Police.
The Commissioner then made the final decision.
The release indicated that the Acting Sergeants, as well as their families, were offered congratulatory remarks by Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley on his behalf as well as that of the Police Service and the High Command.
SKNVibes understands that the promotions take effect from August 1, 2016.
Acting SGT. Liburd was recently transferred from the Traffic Department and is now attached to the Sandy Point Police Station, SGT. (Ag) Brown is attached to the Traffic Department, Woman SGT. (Ag) Lennon is attached to the Strategic Intelligence Unit, SGT. (Ag) Hodge operates within the Nevis Division and Woman SGT. (Ag) Wilson operates from the Frigate Bay Outpost.
This publication understands that interviews for the rank of Corporal have been completed and it is likely that an announcement would be made shortly.
A new High Command was installed in the Police Force in February of this year which left some positions vacant. This had a ripple effect as the positions were filled through the promotion of officers.
Close to 20 individuals have been promoted to various ranks over the past few months.
