BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - YAKIMA Daniel was becoming household name in the Federation and after her stunning designs worn by the local athletes competing at the 2016 Rio Games made waves, her name and that of her design company is on everybody’s tongues.
The designer, who has been in the field for a total of five years, has created a number of artistic pieces that are currently on the shelves of her store, Kiwi Dan Couture.
Her design for the Olympic Games included a Panamanian hat, khaki pants and a white shirt into which a piece of madras was smartly incorporated over the left breast area.
In an interview with SKNVibes.com, Daniel said she felt amazed to have her work featured in the American-based Essence Magazine.
Her design was one of several chosen as the best outfits worn at the Olympic Games opening ceremony at the ongoing Rio Games.
“This means a lot to me to have such a mention. It is not every day that you wake up and have Essence magazine recognise your work in one night.”
She explained that for her it is good to see that all of her dedication and hard work is paying off.
“It is really rewarding to be reflected as one of the best at the games. It is very rewarding.”
Asked how she was selected to be the designer for the athletes, the fashion designer said that she was selected by the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee to put pieces together for the national team, and it took a few days for the designs to come together.
Daniel pointed out that it was easy for her to put that particular outfit together and is currently working on other designs, including an Independence line which is slated to be released shortly.
Individuals interested in purchasing replicas of the athletes’ design would be able to purchase the same, as they are scheduled to hit the shelves as Kiwi Dan Couture shortly. Then the Independence line is expected to follow the designer told SKNVibes.
Team St. Kitts and Nevis is currently participating at the Olympic Games which got underway on Friday last (Aug. 5).
