By: Melissa Bryant, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – REPORTS reaching SKNVibes state that Colin McDonald Hanley (a.k.a. Pencheon), the Federation’s first road fatality for the year, died as a result of multiple skull fractures and broken ribs.

According to a police press release, the results came out of an autopsy conducted Monday (May 18) by resident pathologist Dr. Debozok on the body of Hanley, who hailed from Santo Domingo but resided at Ponds Extension.

Hanley was involved in a road traffic accident on Saturday (May 16) as he was attempting to cross Pond Road in the vicinity of the Spanish bar at about 2:30 a.m. Police reported that during his attempt to cross the road, the 44-year-old collided with motor jeep PA8217, driven by Neil Simon, which was travelling eastwards.

The jeep’s left front fender was damaged while Hanley was taken to the Joseph N. France Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Simon has been arrested and charged for causing death by dangerous driving.

Statistics released by the Police Traffic Department reveal 11 road fatalities were recorded last year in comparison to eight in 2007.

However, overall traffic accidents are on the decline, with a recorded number of 1 140 in 2008 in comparison to 2007’s 1 164. There have been 256 accidents up to March of this year.
