Weekend Vibes - The legalisation of prostitution and homosexuality

Pastor Davidson Morton
By: Nevis Bureau, SKNVibes

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THIS week’s Weekend Vibes asked Nevisians to give their views on a possible legalisation of prostitution and homosexuality as a means of combating the HIV and AIDS. Here are their comments.

Pastor Davidson Morton - The legalisation of prostitution and homosexuality goes contrary to my core beliefs. My core beliefs are based on the unadulterated word of God. Everything for me has to be in conjunction with the word of God. In as much as it conflicts with the word of God I disagree with the legalisation.

Judy Archer - If it is to combat the spread of HIV, I agree. In that way homosexuals and prostitutes would be able to access treatment and care without fear of breaking the law, which would aid the prevention process.

Danika - I don’t support this homosexual thing. I burn it to the ground flat…crucify that, both homosexuality and prostitution. We can’t take this kind of thing; it is not local. I disagree 100 percent. I really don’t think this thing should be legalised because man was made for woman and woman for man. No time! That’s a crime!  Either way, the spread of diseases will still be spread if we don’t abstain or use protection.

Brian - I am against both issues because it is bad for the community and the Federation on a whole. If it is legalised a lot of disease and STDs would spread, so it is better to keep it illegal. It would help to save lives longer when it is not legal.

Sylvester - I firmly say no to legalisation. But on the other hand, you can’t tell someone how to live their life. It’s their personal life. What I would advise each individual to do is stick to one partner, and each individual who are sexually active should have a HIV test to know their status.
