BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A loud crunching sound which resulted from a collision between two vehicles, evoked some measure of concern and investigations revealed that two women were injured in the process.
The midday accident occurred today (Sept. 20) at the junction of Wilkin Street and Horsford’s Road (near the Cenotaph).
It took place between motor jeep PA5886 – which was being driven by Opal Paris of Prospect Village, Nevis - and motorcar R204, driven by Sherine Williams of Lower Monkey Hill.
Individuals who were in the area when the incident occurred, followed the sound produced by the collision and discovered that one of the vehicles was stationary in the middle of Wilkin Street while the other had crashed into the perimeter wall of the Organization of American States Secretariat's compound.
The Traffic Department informed that according to its investigations, R204 was travelling up Wilkin Street while PA5886 was travelling from OTI’s direction along Horsford’s Road when the collision occurred.
The impact appeared to have caused both airbags within R204 to deploy.
SKNVibes is not aware of any injuries suffered by Paris. It is however understood that besides Williams, another woman was occupying R204 and both of them complained of pains about their bodies, including left leg, right hand and head.
Williams, in particular, indicated that she may have struck her head during the incident and was complaining of a severe headache.
The Emergency Medical Services was summoned to the scene and transported both individuals to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment and or observation.
Investigations into the incident are being made.
The Traffic Department reminds that all road users must exercise special caution and be cognizant of each other while travelling along the Federation’s roadways.
