Roadtown, Tortola - Premier Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE has extended congratulations to the Leader of Government Business in the Cayman Islands, Honourable McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP, on his United Democratic Party’s majority win in last Wednesday’s elections.

In a letter to Mr. Bush, the Premier stated, “Your impressive win of nine of the fifteen seats in the Legislative Assembly is an indication of the overwhelming vote of confidence the people of the Cayman Islands have placed in your leadership, especially during this global economic downturn.”

The Premier also congratulated Mr. Bush on winning his constituency describing it as “another vote of confidence in the leadership and representation you have given your constituents over the years.”

In the letter Hon. O’Neal also extended best wishes to Mr. Bush and his Cabinet and said, “These are indeed times of economic uncertainties, but I believe it is also an excellent opportunity for us as Overseas Territories to pool our resources and work together as a united body and as such, I give you my assurance of the highest regard and cooperation.”

Hon. O’Neal said he looks forward to renewing his friendship with Mr. Bush when they meet later this year. “I very much look forward to renewing our friendship when we meet later this year at the next Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) Meeting in London, when I can offer my personal congratulations to you,” he said.

The two leaders previously worked together when Hon. O’Neal was the Territory’s Chief Minister from 1999-2003 and Mr. Bush was Leader of Government Business from 2001-2005.
