Roadtown, Tortola - The BVI Fire and Rescue Services has confirmed a weekend fire which occurred at Duff’s Bottom, Tortola in an apartment complex behind Virgin Islands Motors.

According to the Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mr. William Penn, one fire engine was deployed in response to a call on May 24th at 6:20 p.m.  Five fire-fighters, two of whom were outfitted with breathing apparatus, entered the two-storey building to control and extinguish the flames.

At the time of the fire, three people were reportedly occupying the apartment; however, no one was injured. The fire reportedly originated in the kitchen which sustained minimal damage.

“A team of technicians from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Fire and Rescue Service Department and the Electrical Inspection Unit  is currently analysing samples to determine the cause of the fire,” Mr. Penn said.

“I want to commend the officers for a swift response in locating, controlling and extinguishing the fire, limiting damage to the apartment and any further damage to the apartment complex,” Mr. Penn added.

The Fire and Rescue Service Department is committed to protecting life and property from the effects of fire and all other man-made and natural accidents and disasters.
