BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT was a frightening ordeal last evening (Oct. 6) when an employee and one of the entrepreneurs of Fraites and Sons Bakery were robbed at gunpoint.
The business is located in Molineaux and proprietor Roger Fraites – speaking with local radio station FreedomFM 106.5 – recounted the moments of the incident.
He explained that sometime before 10:00 p.m., one of the employees, who prepares dough to bake bread, went to the establishment and as he was opening the door, a gun was put to his head and he was ordered not to move.
Fraites also indicated that the employee and the robber(s) entered the establishment, the office was broken into and money was stolen therefrom.
The perpetrators, he said, then indicated that that loot was not enough and a decision was made to wait there until “the boss” arrived.
Sometime before midnight, Fraites said he arrived at the Bakery and he too had a gun placed to his head and he was forced to open the vault from which a sum of money was taken by the bandits.
Fraites explained that the perpetrators had a message for the Police regarding its renewed effort to rid the Federation of illicit drugs.
“They said… ‘and tell the (expletive) Police this… This is what dey do to us. Dey tek weh all ah we weed, pull up all ah we (expletive) weed and … this is wah we got to do now to live… I done do two robberies tonight and dis de third’ or something like that…”
Some weeks ago, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force began what they dub “Operation Safe Streets” in which they are cracking down on illegal acts. As at earlier this week, they had uprooted some 67,000 marijuana plants as part of the drug-eradication leg of the Operation.
The Police’s Press and Public Relations Office indicated to SKNVibes that the street value of haul is approximately EC$40M.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is being assisted in this Operation by the Regional Security System.
Fraites said he is looking into implementing security measures.
SKNVibes understands that the incident is under investigation.
