BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN keeping with the government’s thrust of a services-based, diversified economy, three of the Federation’s students at the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute are excelling in their academic pursuits.
Mudassar Hanley is from Gingerland, Nevis and is in his final year of studies for an Associate’s Degree in Hospitality Management. Not only was he recently honoured as one of the school’s “Star Achievers”, but he was also the recipient of a Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association scholarship.
After completing his Associate’s, Hanley plans to matriculate to Southern New Hampshire University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Resort Administration.
Shaline Welcome from Mansions Village is also a student in the Hospitality Management Associate’s Degree programme. Having achieved a B+ GPA during her first year of study, she was recently awarded a Gold Medal for achieving First Place Honours in an Iron Chef Competition hosted at her school.
Welcome is actively involved in college life as she currently holds the posts of Dorm Representative and Student Guild President. She dreams of attaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management at Florida International University and wants to return home to lecture in the same field.
Tasha Hendrickson will graduate in 2010 with an Associate’s Degree in Tourism Management and plans to attend the University of the West Indies to achieve her Bachelor’s Degree in the same field.
The West Farm native has had the opportunity to work on numerous projects, including agro-tourism, resource management, positive and negative impacts on tourism resort development. She would like to use the knowledge gained from her studies as means of enhancing and refreshing the local and regional tourism product.
