Where is your Faith?

Bertram Charles

    SCRIPTURE: Matthew 8: 26

Jesus had just performed several miracles: the leper was healed and made clean. Jesus healed the servant of the centurion who was sick of the palsy. He healed Peter’s mother-in-law of fever and He did other miracles on that day.

After a hard day’s work Jesus and His disciples engaged a boat to go to the other side of the country instead of going by land. The weather was serene and tranquil. The sea was quiet and calm.

They boarded the boat and Jesus went straight to the back of the boat and fell into a deep sleep.  He was tired and fatigued from His activities of the past days. As soon as they set sail, a fierce tempest arose. There was no warning or sign of the pending storm. With the high winds  and waves breaking into the boat,  His disciples, experienced fishermen, men of the sea, accustomed to surging waves and high winds went looking for Jesus in distress, and in fear shouting: “Master wake up,  make haste, deliver us. The boat is sinking, we are perishing, we are in danger of losing our lives. Have you abandoned and neglected us in our time of trial.”

Jesus answered, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith. What has become of your faith? You have seen all the miracles performed by Me.” Then Jesus stood up and rebuked the wind and waves. Suddenly all was quiet and calm.

Into the life of each believer sudden storms will arise. These storms may include, but not limited to, economic and financial downtown; unemployment, sickness, betrayal by friends, broken promises, disappointments and troubles of all kinds. But there is nothing to fear for God’s Love surrounds, enfolds and protects us. God is present in the situation. God is still the Master of ocean, earth and sky that even the winds and the waves obey His will.  Peace Be Still!
