BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (27th May, 2009): Organizers of the 13th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival are confident that David ‘Mavado’ Brooks will give a professional and outstanding performance when he performs on Thursday, June 25th.
“Mavado has a huge fan base throughout the region,” said Allister Williams, Executive Director of the St. Kitts Music Festival. “We are confident that he will use that star power in a positive light when he performs at the St. Kitts Music Festival.”
At a recent press conference, the Executive Director explained the rationale behind putting Mavado on the line-up for Thursday.
“We wanted to improve the attendance on Thursday night to make it a better selling night,” said Williams, who pointed out that in recent times the Thursday night had seen a slight drop in attendance.
Thursday, which is the first night of the three-day St. Kitts Music Festival, traditionally has been referred to as the “Soca Night.” However, with Mavado on the Thursday line-up, the sound of that night definitely will be different this year.
This change falls in line with the renowned diversity of the St. Kitts Music Festival, according to its Executive Director.
“It is not really unusual to have Mavado perform on that night, since it has been the formula to mix things up,” Williams said. “Our patrons love this idea, because when they come to the St. Kitts Music Festival they can experience a variety of music from start to finish.”
Music from calypso icons King Konris and Lord Nelson is guaranteed to thrill the audience on the night of Thursday, June 25th, along with exciting performances by Biggie Irie, Blade & Byke, Edwin Yearwood and Iwer George. Plus, Grand Masters and Nu Vybes International surely will pump up the crowd with high energy renditions of their popular songs.
However, it is fair to say that no other scheduled performer has drawn as much attention as Jamaican dancehall artiste, Mavado.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Hon. Ricky Skerritt said the inclusion of Mavado in this year’s festival adheres to the great musical tradition of the St. Kitts Music Festival, which always showcases the very best artistry that the world has to offer.
Minister Skerritt said the St Kitts Music Festival has a reputation of delivering top quality performances to its patrons. He added that all artistes are required and expected to perform at a high standard.
The St. Kitts Music Festival will take place this year at the historic Warner Park from Thursday, June 25th to Saturday, June 27th.
