BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TEAM St. Kitts and Nevis will have a historic month of football in November when two of FIFA’s powerhouse nations invade Basseterre.
Top regional unit Haiti and European nation Estonia are expected next month for two clashes at Warner Park.
Alistair Edwards, First Vice President of the St. Kitts- Nevis Football Association, confirmed the two fixtures.
He indicated that they have received word from the Caribbean Football Union that the Haiti fixture, which was postponed earlier this month, has now been given an official date – Sunday, November, 13, 2016.
In a letter from the Caribbean Football Union, which pointed to the postponement of the game, they indicated: “Hurricane Matthew related issues have necessitated its cancellation. The Caribbean Football Union General Secretary Neil Cochrane officially informed the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) and the Haitian Football Federation of the cancellation. Match officials have also been directly informed.
“This second consecutive postponement of matches in Group 2 is caused by flight cancellations, which make it impossible for the Haitian delegation to depart Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to St. Kitts in a timely manner...”
Six days later (Nov. 19), the much anticipated clash between Estonia and St. Kitts and Nevis will be the talking point for all football lovers in the Federation.
Since their history-making victory over Andorra last year, the Sugar Boys have had this encounter at the top of their agenda.
They had loss to Estonia 3-nil on their visit to that country during their 2015 European tour and they would be looking to change that result.
But, before they can do that, they must defeat Haiti if they are to qualify for the Final of the Caribbean Cup and keep their hopes of making the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The team lost their opening encounter to French Guiana and now has the herculean task of defeating Haiti.
