BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN keeping with the continued administration of justice, a number of persons who recently appeared before the Federation’s courts were convicted and issued fines.

Jevon Frazer was removed from his Craddock Road, Nevis home and has taken up residence at Her Majesty’s Prison for the next three years as punishment for committing an April 14, 2009 offence of “larceny”.

A juvenile was charged with four traffic offences - “driving without a driver’s licence”, “driving when not covered by insurance”, “driving without due care and attention” and “taking a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner”.

He was convicted of all charges and ordered to pay a $500 fine for each offence. The sums are to be paid within six months or a one month prison-term would be imposed.

In addition to the fine for taking the vehicle without consent, the magistrate ordered that the young man receive 12 strokes.

A $1 200 fine was issued to Anthony Duberry of Barnes Ghaut after he was convicted of committing the offence of “possession of cannabis with intent to supply”. He faces a six-month prison sentence if he fails to pay the sum within the specified six-month period. The offences were committed at Gallows Bay, Nevis on May 22, 2009.

After being convicted of the offences of “larceny” and “battery”, Alister Forde of Godwin Ghaut was fined $500 on the former offence and $300 on the latter. The sums are to be paid within two months or he has to serve a one-month custodial sentence.

Within the next two months, Jeron Walters of Ottley’s Village will have to pay a $500 fine if he is to escape serving a one-month prison sentence. The fine is his punishment for the offences of “making use of insulting language” and “making use of threatening language”.

Although convicted of committing a battery offence against Javin Dias of Boyds, Alton Clarke was merely cautioned for the December 6, 2008 offence.
