BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ARLENE LIBURD, who was shot multiple times last night (Oct. 28) along with her husband during an armed robbery, succumbed to her injuries early this morning at the Joseph N France General Hospital.
This publication learned that sometime after 7:00 p.m. while Arlene and her husband, Seymour Liburd, were about to make a deposit for one of their customers at the Wellington Road branch of the Royal Bank of Canada, one or more armed bandits opened fire in their direction in an attempt to rob them.
It is understood that while the couple was lying on the ground in the S.L. Horsford’s Shopping Complex in the vicinity of Valu Mart, the bandit(s) took the money bags before making good their escape.
Arlene was reportedly shot to both legs and her stomach while Seymour was shot to his legs and side. The couple was transported to the JNF General Hospital where Arlene later succumbed to her injuries.
SKNVibes learned that Seymour, a former member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, is the owner of a security agency called Reliable Security Services and he and his wife have been providing deposit services to many business establishments for a number of years.
Arlene Liburd’s death has taken the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year to 27.
This incident is being investigated by the Violent Crimes Unit and the police are appealing to anyone who has information that could lead to the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrator or perpetrators to provide the investigators with same by calling 465-2241 ext. 4358 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-88477 (TIPS).
