Sugar Boys up for regional Sports Journalists Award

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE local football team, which has been on the up in the FIFA Football Rankings, was nominated for the Caribbean Association of Sports Journalists’ (CASJA) Men’s Team of the Year Award.

The Bahamas-based CASJA has nominated the Sugar Boys along with several other outstanding team performances, including the Bahamas’ 4X400m Men Relay team and the Jamaican 4X100m Men Relay team.

The Sugar Boys steadily progressed up the rankings and currently sit at 74th in the latest numbers, despite a recent defeat at the feet of French Guiana.

St. Kitts and Nevis can however continue its upward trend if the team defeats Haiti and Estonia later this month at Warner Park.

Meanwhile, Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson have also been nominated for Male and Female Sports Personalities of the Year Awards.

Antiguan and West Indies pace bowler Alzarri Joseph has been nominated for the Male Rising Star and Junior Sportsman of the Year titles, while former West Indies U-19 World Cup winning captain and Guyana middle-order batsman, Shimron Hetmyer is also in the running for the Rising Star Award.
