Fret not yourself!

Bertram Charles

    Scripture:  Psalm 37: Verse 1

Very often when we see the prosperity of the wicked and the affliction of the righteous we tend to fret, but King David, in his old age, exhorts us to look at the wicked in the light of the future and not to worry because of evil-doers.

When we see evil-doers driving expensive vehicles and living extravagant, frivolous and luxurious lives, we should not be envious or jealous of them because the wicked are cut down and without remedy like the grass. The destruction of the workers of iniquity will be speedy, sudden, sure and without deliverance.

(Newspaper, television and media bad news) The grass cannot resist the weed-eater or the lawn mower. The cut grass dries up once in the heat of the sun. Evil-doers are also like morning flowers that soon wither and fade away. Even so all the worldly goods and false glory of the wicked shall disappear at the hour of death. They die and are forgotten.

Accordingly, we should not  envy or worry about law-breakers, their worldly goods and the fleeting glory of material things  are but grass and the flower that perish, when we,  as believers, have embodied souls that live and abide forever?

Consequently, the Psalmist, among his admonitions, counsels us to trust in the Lord when we are faced with the dilemma of the prosperity of the wicked. To do good, live safely and we will be prosperous. To commit everything we do to the Lord and He will help us. To cease from anger, forsake wrath or do not fret as it only causes harm. To delight in the Lord and He shall give us the desires of our hearts.

We are to delight in God’s perfections; in His omnipresence; omniscience; omnipresence. In His holiness, justice, love, mercy, grace and His salvation by His Son, Jesus Christ. When we delight in God, He will cause us to ride upon high places of the earth, we will be in His utmost safety, enjoy the greatest plenty and shall lack of nothing.
