Roadtown, Tortola - The just ended mid-term meeting of the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists (CAP) at the Moorings Mariner Inn Hotel, Tortola, has been called “one of the best meetings”.

That feedback came from President of the Association Mr. Basil Scantlebury, as well as the Secretary/Treasurer of the regional body Mr. David Pellows, after the May 23-24 meeting in the Virgin Islands (UK). “It was one of the best meetings we have had in terms of attendance by both local and overseas pharmacists,” both regional officials said.

The CAP President went on to thank the local organisers for what he said was a great meeting. “From all who attended it met and in most cases surpassed all expectations,” he noted.

The Territory’s Chief of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services Ms. Gracia Wheatley said the meeting was attended by 15 local delegates, of which 13 were pharmacists. There were also a pharmacy technician and a student of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in attendance.

In addition Ms. Wheatley noted that there were visiting pharmacists from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Guyana, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and the US Virgin Islands. Last weekend’s CAP mid-term meeting was held under the theme “A Pharmacist’s Perspective in Patient Care Using HIV Disease Management as a Model.” Highlights included a presentation entitled “Understanding the Role of the Pharmacist in Patient care” by Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Dr. Billy Ray Browne.

The Caribbean Association of Pharmacists was established in 1976. One of its primary objectives is to encourage, stimulate and maintain a high standard of pharmaceutical education within the region. The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide leadership that promotes health, social well-being, and a safe environment as positive resources for living and sustainable development of the Virgin Islands (UK).
