CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Bank of Nevis today (May 29) donated $15 000 to the Alexandra Hospital to be used towards the purchase of an ultra-sound machine for the institution.

The donation was made by Bank General Manager Everette Martin to Health Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, Nicole Slack-Liburd at the hospital’s administration building.

Martin said the bank was committed towards improving the quality of life on Nevis. He said they were aware that the ultra-sound machine is a very critical piece of equipment so there was no hesitation when the Ministry approached them for the donation.

Martin also said it was not the first time the Bank of Nevis donated to the hospital, having presented $19 000 for the purchase of equipment. Martin gave a commitment that the Bank would be making future contributions.

Slack-Liburd said the Ministry and the hospital were grateful for the donation, and reminded everyone that ultra-sound machines are not only for use on pregnant women, but are also used to conduct renal, prostrate and breast ultras-sound.

She also said the machine would allow the hospital to extend diagnostic services and generally provide better health care to the population.

The presentation was made in the presence of several members of staff of the bank and the hospital.
