Weekend Vibes:The return of organised female cricket to Nevis

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE recent resuscitation of female cricket on the island has seen an upsurge in crowd support at games. Weekend Vibes asked Nevisians why they believe the females are getting more support than the males.

Ronald – The return of female cricket to Grove Park is a result of the vision of the Nevis Cricket Association, so therefore we are going to give it our fullest support. We are aware that in the nineties female cricket was a big hit and a crowd puller. One of the reasons why female cricket draws a much bigger crowd than men cricket is all about marketing. I believe that the female teams market themselves much better than the men, and as a result they draw a much bigger crowd.

Singerman –Wherever women are men will follow. Where a man won’t adjust his trousers a woman will adjust and make themselves well-attired and we men will come just how we feel. The women also hit some wonderful shots and get some brilliant catches.

Wendell – It’s something new and Nevisians will follow anything that is not seen for a while. Teams like Highlights International who have a wide range of fans and the Guyana team which is well-supported will bring a crowd. And all teams have exciting players.

Trini –The women are more organised. They are more committed and they support each other to the fullest more than men, because in 1997 women brought crowds to the villa and it is the same thing now…they bring it to the park.

Glenroy – The women play good and they are interested more than men. The men’s games are not sweet. They men are weak, they don’t have enough strength to put out all. I will support the women.
