BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THERE was tapping of feet, bobbing of heads, swaying of bodies and clapping of hands on Monday evening (Dec. 5) at The Circus where the first night of the In the Spirit of Christmas activity was held.
It is beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas especially after the various groups and individuals presented their pieces to the sizeable audience.
The evening’s house band was Radical Praise which - in addition to providing musical accompaniment for the artistes - did an opening rendition and brought the house down at the end of the event.
The melodious voice of Kayla Bass punched through the atmosphere when she powerfully and soulfully sang Christina Aguilera’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”.
The Early Childhood Coral had the audience smiling, cheering and singing when they took the stage and performed a number of medleys. The first began with ‘Jingle Jingle’ which segued into ‘Little Drummer Boy’. A local version of ‘Silver Bells’ with a reggae twist was segued into the popular Christmas carol ‘Joy to the World’.
They ended their performance by wishing the receiving audience ‘a Sugar Christmas and a Happy New Year’.
Little Kaliana Robin blessed the hearts of many with her ‘Oh Come All Ye Faithful’ solo as did Delrose Mills who boldly declared that Christmas means love to her.
Others who appeared on the evening’s programme include the contestants of the National Carnival Queen Pageant, contestants of the Mr. GQ Pageant and the contestants of the Miss Swimsuit Competition.
The ceremony was chaired by Pastor and singer Phillip Webbe.
The Circus came alive again last evening (Dec. 6) when the In the Spirit of Christmas event continued.
Among the groups who are expected to perform during the four-night event are the Her Majesty’s Prison Rehabilitation Band and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force Band.
