Students at the Special Education look on as Principal of Charlestown Preparatory School, Mrs Williams (far right) presents them with the gift
Charlestown Nevis (March 5, 2004) The Charlestown Preparatory School demonstrated the goodwill of friendship when on Thursday; it donated one refrigerator to the teachers and students at the Special Education Unit.

Principal of the School Mrs. Varina Williams noted that the moment was very special saying, “This is the type of things that we like to see go on in education.   We look out for each other because education belongs to all of us and we need to share.”

In presenting the gift to the Department of Education, Principal Williams observed that the students and teachers of the school found it fitting to donate the refrigerator to the Special Education Unit as soon as they learnt of the need at the school.

She noted that the school jumped to the cause, because it had two refrigerators, one was bought two months ago and the other a prize package from a competition. “We know that it is for a good cause and we feel very happy about it.”

Accepting on behalf of the Education Department, Acting Principal Mrs. Lornette Manners noted her pleasure.  She said that she was overcome by the generosity of the school and that it just goes to show that one hand cannot clap.

She added, “We are extremely happy to receive on behalf of the Special Unit, this refrigerator. Mrs. Williams and her staff could have kept it at their school, but they chose because of their community spirit to share with the Special Unit.  The teachers here are extremely grateful.”

Supervisor of the Special Education Unit, Mrs. Francis, in accepting the donation from Principal Education Officer, Mrs. Manners, said that the good book, the bible says, in everything give thanks.

“To Mrs. Williams, I do not know if we have enough words to thank you, the school board, the PTA, the students, everyone involved, but I will simply say heartfelt thanks from our special education family.  Our volunteers, parents, teachers, children everyone we are very, very grateful and I can assure you that we are going to take extremely good care of this baby here.”

The Supervisor also gave special thanks to Ms Thelma T.C. Claxton who was very instrumental in getting the refrigerator to the school.  The students and teachers, not only gave Ms Claxton a card but expressed their appreciation by singing the song, “Thanks, Thanks, I give you thanks.”
