BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A healthy night’s rest depends on what one sleep on and i furniture giant COURTS, which has many offices regionally, is making that happen in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The company, on Friday evening (Dec. 9), officially opened their comfort sleep showroom, which is geared at highlighting the benefits of a good night’s rest, while promoting the Serta Mattress brand.

At a simple, yet significant ceremony held at the company’s Basseterre branch, Dr. Darryl Warner sought to enlighten those present on the importance of selecting the right bed for a proper night’s rest.

An Orthopaedic Surgeon by profession, Warner noted that he has over the year changed his mattress to suit his need and he continues to make recommendations on what mattresses are best for his patients.

“For all of my patients, I have always talked about having a good bed. If we would look at what we consider stiff, soft or medium, depending on the type of pathology that the patient has, we would recommend what suit their needs.

“We look at the different injuries such as cervical, the neck; we look at the lumbar spine and even certain foot injuries, a simple bed can help us.”

He pointed out that in relation to cervical spine injury, the height and texture of the bed is critical.

“When patients come complaining of lower back pain and saying they have it for a number of years, and they say it is the bed or not the bed, and when you go into the clinical aspect you realise that they do need a change of bed.”

COURTS Senior Marketing Supervisor for the OECS, Melissa Marius explained that her company is the exclusive retailer of the Serta Mattress brand in the region, and they decided to establish the sleep centre after listening to feedbacks from customers.

“It is because we understand that our customers require such quality of our products, we found it necessary to align our self with some of the better-known brands. We have been with Serta for a long time and they understand the concept of what the sleep centre stands for and the partnership is only fitting as we continue to align ourselves.”

Dr. Garfield Alexander explained that most people take for granted what sleep is about, and when people buy beds they do not think about the comfort level of what they are sleeping on.

“Most times it is the woman in the relationship that is charged with coming to COURTS or somewhere else to buy the bed. And she picks out the bed. Usually, she picks up a size which she just wants to ensure that it fits into the room and it looks nice, and then the mattress comes in after. But it has been scientifically proven that what we classify as medium to stiff is what is most beneficial.

That, he noted, must be considered with the hours spent lying on the bed daily, whether it is to sleep or just to relax.
