Junior carnival show gets boost from Christophe Harbour

By: Christophe Harbour, Press Release

December 17th, 2016 -- Christophe Harbour through the Christophe Harbour Foundation has provided cash support to the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Committee for the hosting of the Primary and Junior Calypso Monarch Competition to be held during ‘SugarMas 45’.

Christophe Harbour Vice President of Operations Jon Gersonde handed over an EC$20,600 cheque to the Carnival Committee via Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards, the minister responsible for cultural matters.

In presenting the cheque to the minister, Gersonde noted that since 2009, Christophe Harbour has donated over $43,000 to carnival in St. Kitts.

“We are happy to support this great cause, this great event, and I look forward to attending for the first time,” said Gersonde, who recently joined Christopher Harbour Development on the Southeast Peninsula.

Noah Mills, the chairman of the Carnival Committee commended the partnership of Christophe Harbour and the Carnival Committee. He said, “It is because of partnerships, such as yours that allows Carnival to be as fantastic as it is.  On behalf of the Management Team of the National Carnival, I take this opportunity to say thank you. We appreciate your continued partnership and donation to the cause.”

Expressing gratitude to Christophe Harbour, on behalf of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, particularly the Ministry of Culture, Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards was pleased that the donation was directed toward the children component of the carnival.

He stated, “For our culture to continue, we need to ensure we give support to the young persons. These are the persons who will continue the traditions of carnival, the different cultural art forms that we are accustomed to. These are the persons who will ensure there is sustainability.”

It was disclosed at the event that an additional contribution to carnival is being arranged. It is understood that Christophe Harbour, through the Foundation, will sponsor and host a reception in honour of the contestants of the major carnival events.

The event will take place at The Marina at Christophe Harbour on a date soon to be determined by the Carnival Committee.

Over the years, Christophe Harbour has made contributions to education, youth development and culture through the Christophe Harbour Foundation.
