Burning Flames steals the show; local artistes outshine Alkaline

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TOUTED as the biggest event on the Carnival calendar of activities, the Inception Fete lived up to its hype last night (Dec. 30) but not without some degree of disappointment to patrons.

With some of the region’s top performers on the line-up, the party never stopped until midday. However, one of the headline acts gave a mixed performance.

That headliner, Jamaican Dancehall artiste Earlan ‘Alkaline’ Bartley, who was embroiled in a controversy during a visit to the Federation in late 2014, gave a performance that caused many patrons to question his presence at the event.

Coming onstage short after 4:00 a.m., Alkaline belted out some 12 songs, but patrons did not feel his promised energy until he dished out ‘Champion Boy’, ‘Gone Away’ and ‘Bruk Out’, which are his more popular tunes are popular around the region.

He however took a swipe at those with whom the controversy evolved in Nevis by dedicating  his “Formula” tune to them, in which it says: “Dem nae waan mi here. Lee Milla n Nuh like mi care, and when mi done get out of there.”

That did not go down well with many patrons who openly voiced their disappointment in the artiste’s performance.

“Only a few of his songs were good. Alkaline did not live up to the hype he had promised us,” one female patron was overhead commenting on his performance.

Many were disappointed with some of his songs, but, the local artistes took away the limelight from the controversial artistes.

The disappointment was soon forgotten after LAX featuring KT brought the ‘Big Truck to the stage and was followed by Akai with his Dancehall-styled ‘Bruk It, Set It’, which

Sweet Sister Sensia also brought some energy into the event as she rubbed the men in attendance with her selections on the console.

Shanna Raymond, the only female performer in the line-up, showcased her warfare spirit when she stepped onstage with her popular ‘Warrior’ song and followed up with ‘Shanola’, before capping off her 45-minute performance by letting the packed venue know who was the ‘International Girl’.

Newly-crowned Groovy King, Rucas had the crowd rocking with his ‘Sway’ song that has shot him to fame locally and regionally this year.

Disc Jockey EK also contributed to the hype of the event. He brought out the ‘party animal’ in most of the women in attendance when spun Ahai’s popular Dancehall-styled ‘Bruk It, Set It’ and a number of other popular ‘hip-gyrating’ tunes.

With the sun slowly rising above the Caribbean Sea and chilly wind blowing across the Historic Fort Thomas Hotel, the Original Burning Flames woke up the ‘party animals’ and re-energized those who were about to leave.

Many patrons were seen sleeping in the venue. Some couples were cuddled together on the mounds taking a nap while a number of men laid brutalised from the heavy overnight battle with alcohol.

Taking the stage several minutes after 6:00 a.m., the Original Burning Flames played several classical Soca songs including the ever-popular ‘Workey Workey’ and the “If loving you is Wrong’.

These were some of the hit songs that left the Music Festival fans wanting more from the group earlier this year, thus spurring the Inception Fete Committee to have the band returned to the Federation.

The Inception Fete continued for most of the morning as a number of local bands provided entertainment for those who remained until the end of the 12-hour all-inclusive party.
