Toddler, mother involved in traffic accident

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A toddler and her mother were taken to the hospital last evening (Jan. 5) after they were involved in a two-vehicle accident along the island main road.

SKNVibes understands that the mother – Kimberly Stewart of Frigate Bay – was operating motor jeep P7456 and her 16-month-old girl was with her when the accident occurred.

According to information released by the Traffic Department, she was travelling in an easterly direction while motorcar R338 – which was driven by Kaitlyn Mattia – was travelling in the opposite direction.

The Department reported that while in vicinity of Island Trading Ltd, Camps, Mattia took a right turn to enter that compound and in doing so, collided with the vehicle Stewart was operating. The incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m.

SKNVibes understands that the vehicles’ airbags deployed as a result of the crash and R338 was more extensively damaged than P7456.

Stewart and her child were transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital via the Emergency Medical Service for medical attention. SKNVibes understands that the adult sustained an injury to her left palm and there were no reported injuries to the toddler.

Both were released from the hospital last evening. There is no word on whether or not the other driver sustained any injury.

The Traffic Department has indicated that a notice of intended prosecution was served on Mattia and investigations are continuing.
