(Charlestown, Nevis, January 22,2017) -- The annual Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS) jumble sale will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 9 am to 12 noon at the Alexander Hamilton Museum grounds, Charlestown.
Proceeds accrued from the jumble sale will support the Society’s initiatives. Entry fees are EC$5 for adults EC$3 for children.
Wendy Smith, this year’s jumble sale’s coordinator, says there are several ways you can support this year’s sale.
“You can donate quality items or you can come along and purchase anything from books and clothing to plants and furniture. “We’ve already collected a variety of goodies that are bound to go fast,” she says.
To make the jumble sale a great success, Wendy’s looking for volunteers that can help fetch donations from people, or assist on the day running stalls or clearing up at the end of the sale.
What has inspired Wendy to volunteer for the sale for past five years? “It’s amazing to see the things people outgrow that then become useful for someone else. As well as raising funds for the NHCS, we’re also encouraging people to recycle their belongings, instead of simply throwing them away. We find new homes for pre-loved items,” Wendy explains.
An aficionado of Nevis, Wendy first discovered this magical place after her in-laws bought a home here. She believes “it’s the most treasured island in the Caribbean”. And now she’s salvaging and revitalizing treasures for islanders – while at the same time benefiting the Society’s work.
