Two men injured in McKnight’s night shooting

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE brazen and bold-face cowardly acts of criminals in St. Kitts continue to plague the society, as two young men were last night (June 3) shot by an unidentified gunman in the Irishtown area.

Information reaching SKNVibes, which was confirmed by the police, states that Gavin ‘Big Cheese’ Grant and Travis ‘Small One’ Crawford, both of Irishtown, are nursing gunshot wounds at the Joseph N France General Hospital after they were shot while on their way home.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry, police responded to a report of shooting in the Irishtown area last night and investigations revealed that at or about 10:20 two men had fallen victims to gunshots.

“Investigations revealed that Grant and Crawford were walking on their way home, and as they approached the Park and Beaches building they were attacked. Grant was shot in the chest while Crawford was shot in the back,” Henry said.

Henry informed that the men were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and warded in stable condition. He further stated that no one has so far been held in connection with the incident, but investigations are ongoing.

This media house learnt that the two men reside in a house within the Parks and Beaches Unit complex, and they were shot a short distance from there while walking westerly along Fort Thomas Road.

This has been the third shooting incident in as many days to have occurred within the McKnight/Irishtown areas and have caused members of the communities not only to fear for their safety, but also to call upon the gun-toting youths to desist from crime and violence and be engaged in constructive activities.

On Monday (June 1), a number of resident of and visitors to McKnight had to run for cover as three men were engaged in a broad daylight shootout in Fiennes Avenue. No one was reportedly injured.

Last night, just one hour and 15 minutes after the Irishtown shooting, some eight bullets were fired at the Fiennes Avenue home of Davida Phipps, causing minor damage to the front door and window, as well as to the bonnet of a car that was parked in the immediate vicinity.

The police are appealing to persons who have information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of these incidents to call the Criminal Investigation Department at telephone number 465-2241 ext 220, 230 or 236. Individuals may also call the crime hotline at 707.

Inspector Henry has also noted that all information received would be held in strict confidence.
