Traffic restrictions to be implemented in downtown Basseterre

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Traffic Department is serving notice to the motoring public that in a week’s time, the flow of traffic along Liverpool Row would be partially restricted.

Head of the Department Inspector Carl Caines told SKNVibes that the restriction has become necessary owing to the renovating of the building which houses Delisle Walwyn and Co. Ltd.

Currently, Liverpool Row is a two-way street but according to Caines, effective Thursday (Feb. 9), vehicular traffic would only be allowed to flow westward along that street.

As part of the restriction, Inspector Caines also indicated that parking along the stretch of road between The Circus and Delisle Street would be strictly prohibited.

The appropriate signage to reflect the restrictions would be erected and the changes should be observed until further notice is given.

Meanwhile, it is understood that in vicinity of the roundabout near Camps, construction work will soon be undertaken. As such, Inspector Caines is urging motorists to exercise additional caution when driving in that area.

“There is some work that is going to be done in the area of the Camps roundabout and I want motorists to be cautious of that. It will be from the 6th February to the 26th February, thereabout. They will be putting up some boundaries and walkways etc. The Rams Company would be doing some work in the area and we want both pedestrians and motorists to take note.

“We need the public to be aware of these changes so they can govern themselves accordingly. Also, we are trying not to make the changes without giving the public ample notice of the impending restrictions. So we are asking for the cooperation of the motoring public to be mindful of the changes and to ensure that you uphold the traffic laws of the land.”
