Sudiepop’s visit to Jamaica bittersweet

Sudine ’Sudiepop’ Clarke

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHILE her trip to perform among Jamaica’s hottest artistes was deemed an honour and a privilege, local artiste Sudine Clarke, a.k.a. Sudiepop, was devastated to learn that her mother had died hours before making her entrance on stage.

The young singer was invited to perform at a benefit concert in Jamaica called ‘Music in the name of Life’ on Saturday, May 30. The concert was organised for the Martha’s House in Central Kinston, which is a home for children living with HIV/AIDS.

However, just hours before her scheduled performance, Sudipop learnt of her mother’s death and had to be encouraged by family members to fulfill her engagement. They told her that it would have been what her mother wanted, because she had always encouraged Sudipop in her chosen career.

During her performance, Sudipop sang ‘Reminisce’ and dedicated two special songs for her mother, Marcia Clarke: ‘Mama Alone’, which was done by fellow local artiste Jah Fire, and Sizzla’s ‘Thank You Mama’.

The event was organised by Lawman Lynch, a youth advocate and first Vice President of the KSA-AFA. In a statement leading up to the event, Lynch said that the benefit concert is a great means of achieving the expected goals of assisting in getting needy HIV/AIDS medication to children living with the virus.

“This is a great initiative at the centre of which we are calling for you to help a child, save a life, as well as contribute required necessities for the children's home that lack adequate basic resources," He said.

The concert also featured performances by Romain Virgo, Nadine Sutherland, Kiprich, d’Angel and more.
