Sensational Six launched for Miss Culture Queen Pageant

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Miss Culture Queen Pageant of Culturama 35 was launched on Friday (June 5) with the presentation of the six contestants and the revelation that this year’s competition will consist of 10 categories.

     

    The Sensational Six, as the beauties were dubbed by the Miss Culture Queen Pageant Sub-Committee Chairman Garrett Skeete, were presented at a simple ceremony held at the Charlestown Waterfront after a motorcade through the streets of Charlestown.

     

    Skeete said the girls were all queens in their own right, and commended the committee for having six contestants – compared to four last year – and for unveiling them so early in the year.

     

    Skeete also revealed that the girls would be competing in 10 categories on the two nights – July 26 and August 2.  On the first night there will be a Cultural Attire and Speech competitions, along with One and Two-piece Swimsuit segments. According to Skeete, the Committee has added a 35th anniversary special dubbed Pretty in Pink, where the girls would wear a pink two-piece swimsuit in recognition of breast cancer awareness.

     

    On August 2 the six beauties will earn points in Promotional Speech, National Costume, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview segments. Each segment carries a maximum of 35 points.

     

    Also making remarks on Friday were the Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry; Minister of Culture, the Hon. Hensley Daniel; Manager of the Festivals’ Secretariat in the Ministry of Culture, Abonaty Liburd; and Committee Member Hazel Chiverton. 

     

    There were also cultural presentations by the Cotton Ground Masquerade group and Rhythmz Dance Theatre as well as renditions by King Astro and Ryhana Wong.

     

    Reigning Miss Culture Taneisha Hendrickson, wearing her crown, was also part of the motorcade and ceremony.

     

    The girls, who were introduced by Cecily Maloney and sashed by representatives of their sponsors, are Miss Island Tyres and Hardware Tamerelle Browne, Miss Carib Brewery SKN Ltd. Mika O’Brien, Miss LIME Tatiana Dore, Miss Coastal Air Transport Masinda Nisbett, Miss St. Kitts-Nevis Development Bank Kishsandra Williams, and Miss NAGICO Insurance Cindy Liburd.
