It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ashton C. Lewis, affectionately known as “Mills,” at the age of 87 in Brooklyn, New York, on Monday, January 27th.

 

Ashton was born in the village of St. Paul’s, St. Kitts and Nevis, to Sydney “Mills” Markman and Francis “Peet” Warner, both deceased. He began his career as a young teacher at the St. Paul’s School before joining the Leeward Island Police Force in St. Kitts. Over the years, he served as a police officer in St. Kitts, Anguilla, and Antigua, where he rose to the rank of Inspector of Police in charge of immigration for Antigua and Barbuda.

 

Ashton later traveled to London, England, to study law. Afterward, he migrated to the United States, where he worked and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY.

 

He was the father of nine children, including Keithly Williams of Boston. He is survived by his sister, Francil Warner of Tampa, Florida, and was predeceased by his brothers, Herbert and Frederick Lewis.

 

He leaves behind numerous nephews, including Talbert and Darius Warner of St. Kitts, and nieces, including Amelia Chiverton and family in Nevis.

 

May he rest peacefully with the Ancestors.
