On Monday September 5th, SKELEC began a load shedding exercise as a result of a shortfall in generation capacity at the Needsmust Power Plant.
The situation at the power plant continues to improve and generation capacity continues to increase. SKELEC thanks its technicians and crews who have dedicated countless hours and effort towards repair and maintenance work on the generators.
As such, on Thursday 4th September and Friday 5th September, the company did not have to execute any load shedding outages.
SKELEC however wishes to advise that the situation at the Power Plant is dynamic and the company may need to re-engage in some load management strategies, in the event of an unexpected shortfall in generation capacity.
Kindly note that while no load shedding outages are expected until further notice SKELEC has not discontinued its load shedding exercises as yet as repairs and maintenance work is still ongoing.
SKELEC will provide a further update in the upcoming days advising on the steps being taken to further increase generation capacity and the way forward.
