Comment: I have recently viewed with concern the rising number of seemingly off-the-cuff comments and observations made to the Press by Government Officials in St.Kitts and Nevis.
It is true that the public, through the press, may be notified to good effect of Government's programmes and plans. But officials must make certain that their releases are first seen by heads of Ministries or Departments, and that they are measured, unambiguous and easy to understand.
We should remember that not all of our Media personnel are very experienced, well-trained or sophisticated; and some of them occasionally do make quite loose interpretations of what is said to them.
Senior Government Officers who give releases should therefore be totally professional and clear in their meanings when dealing with the Media. |
