Comment: The editor and writer of this article did not properly inform the readers of what this all means. The unlearned public who do not know what the law defines domestic violence to be will think that these are all case of actual physical violence. I believe that the author should have given the definition of the offence and queried from Christopher what was the break down of these reports. How many were actual physical abuse, psychological abuse, emotional abuse etc based on the legal definition of the offence. Below you will see the legal definition of of the offence as stated in the Domestic Violence Act of 2003.
Section 5. For the purposes of this Act, conduct that constitute domestic violence include;
(a) violence that results in or is likely to result in
(i) physical harm,
(ii) sexual suffering, or
(iii) psychological suffering;
(b) threats of violence;
(c) coercion;
(d) arbitrary deprivation of liberty;
(e) molestation;
(f) conduct of an offensive or harassing nature;.
(g) conduct which amounts to psychological abuse,
intimidation or persecution. |
